Break monsoon conditions from June 29 to reduce monsoon rainfall further

Monsoon rains surpassed the daily average until June 20. As on June 20 the country was surplus by 40%. But since then, rain activities decrease over Indo Gangetic plains, central India as well as South Peninsula. As on June 26th, monsoon was surplus by just 20%.

Monsoon will remain subdued over most parts of northern plains, central India and South Peninsula. Rains will also reduce over the eastern part of the country. However, northeast India will continue with good rainfall for at least next 4 to 5 days.

Break monsoon conditions are expected from June 29. Break monsoon is declared when monsoon trough shifts to foothills of Himalayas. Humid easterly winds are replaced by dry westerly winds over Indo-Gangetic Plains and Central parts of the country. Weather become almost dry over most parts of the country. Except northeast India. West Coast of the country also witness significant reduction in rain. Sometimes rainfall increases over Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas.

These break monsoon conditions are expected to continue for at least in next one week or so. Monsoon may revive after July 6th, as the axis of monsoon trough will start sitting south. Weak monsoon conditions are expected to continue over most parts of the country until first week of July. This break monsoon will adversely impact the agriculture. Sowing of Kharif crop is almost complete. Now water is essential to irrigate the crops. Crops in in The Rain dependent regions of the country may suffer.
