Chennai needs to be prepared for cyclone Nada, here’s why
While we were crying out loud for Chennai rains to be back, they most certainly are back. This time, it is not a depression which is responsible for bringing in rains over the capital city of Tamil Nadu, but in fact, it is the second cyclone of the season.

Cyclone Nada formed in the Bay of Bengal yesterday and all hell broke loose since the cyclone is quite close to the capital city. In fact, weathermen have warned the city of receiving a few heavy spells if not flooding rains during the next 24 to 48 hours.

If we go back in time, last year, during the same time span, Chennai rains had wreaked havoc and the entire city was crying for help. Flights were cancelled, roads were flooded, Ola boats came to the rescue, and several start-ups came out to help.

The one thing that was missing from the Chennai rains records was lack of preparedness. The multi-crore drainage projects seemed to fail as there were major loopholes. The one thing that escalated the whole Chennai rains scenario was the failure from the authorities’ side to curb the Chennai rains situation.

The Indian Armed Forces, the Air Forces and the Indian Navy along with the NDRF and other forces did all that they could to save the city and its residents.

However, all one can hope for is that the Chennai rains disaster was a lesson well learnt and the authorities have prepared well in advance for what’s in store.
