Chennai has recorded good rains during the first week of October. However, since October 8, the capital city of Tamil Nadu had begun to witness dry and warm weather conditions. Although, interior parts of Tamil Nadu were seeing moderate showers due to persistence of a north south trough running across Interior Tamil Nadu.

Due to the formation of Cyclone Titli over Northwest Bay, winds changed direction leading to dry weather over Coastal Tamil Nadu and Chennai.

Now, northeasterly winds have become dominant and Northeast Monsoon is just around the corner.

In fact, in the last 24 hours also, the city of Chennai witnessed heavy spells of showers with Minambakkam observatory recording a whopping 69 mm of rains while the Nungambakkam observatory saw moderate spells of 21 mm.

Now also, a few spells of rains are expected over Chennai and its suburbs during the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, weather may once again become dry. However, isolated thunderstorm activities cannot be ruled out. In fact, November and October are the rainiest months for Chennai wherein the city receives heavy rainfall activities.

Day temperatures are expected to settle in the lower 30s around 33-34 degrees Celsius. In combination with humid winds, weather will remain sultry over the city of Chennai.

By October 22, significant reduction is expected over Tamil Nadu along with the capital city of Chennai.
