Clear weather for Vaishno Devi, no more rain and snow

The holy shrine of North India, Vaishno Devi was engulfed in thick blanket of snow and heavy rain since December 24. The region had witnessed varying intensity of both rain and snow.

At present, there are chances of light rain over the region. Due to on and off precipitation, weather conditions remained grim with bone-chilling temperatures from Katra up to Vaishno Devi. Also, the path from Katra to the shrine became slippery leading to dangerous travel conditions for the pilgrims. Devotees as well as the residents were advised to take precautionary measures and avoid going to shrine for few days. Landslides and avalanches also cannot be ruled out from the region.

According to Skymet Weather, the active Western Disturbance which is giving rain and snow over Vaishno Devi and adjoining areas is expected to move away during the next 24 hours. With this, weather conditions will improve. The snow show and rainfall activity will take a backseat. This weather condition is expected to persist over the area till February 2 and 3; however the sky will remain partly cloudy.

Thereafter, another active Western Disturbance will approach Jammu and Kashmir including Vaishno Devi by February 4, which will affect the region until February 6. With this, we can expect rain and thundershowers over Katra and Vaishno Devi. Snowfall may also engulf the hills of Vaishno Devi.
