As snowfall continues in hills, cold wave conditions have intensified across the plains of North India. The minimum temperatures have registered significant drop at most of the places in last 24 hours. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, clear weather conditions have led to drop in night temperatures.
Due to the Western Disturbance, the region has also not been witnessing fog for last couple of days, which does not allow temperatures to drop. Moreover, moderate north-westerly winds that are cold in nature have worsened the situation.
On Thursday morning, Ludhiana and Pathankot in Punjab recorded minimum temperature of 3.9°C and 2.9°C, respectively, both four degrees below normal. Similarly, Patiala and Jalandhar observed 4.1°C and 2.9°C, respectively, again three degrees below normal.
In Haryana, Karnal recorded night temperature at 2.4°C, which is six degrees below normal. Narnaul and Hisar saw the minimum settle 5 degrees below normal at 1.5°C and 2.1°C, respectively. Sirsa also recorded night temperature at 2.1°C, which is four degrees below normal. Ambala saw the minimum settle at 5.4°C, two degrees below normal.
Delhi also recorded 4.8°C as minimum temperature, which is four degrees below the normal average.
As per the latest forecast by Skymet, people across the region will continue to reel under cold nights for next 24 hours as minimum temperatures will witness further drop, though marginally.
After next 48 hours, minimum temperatures are expected to rise due to the approaching Western Disturbance and a cyclonic circulation, which is brewing over Rajasthan.
