Weather in India

During this time of the year, western and central parts of the country receive no weather activity in terms of rains or a notable change in temperatures. In fact, during this period, the weather activity remains confined to the northern parts of the country itself. Moreover, it is the hills of North India that record significant rain and snow.

The hilly states of North India observe weather activity more because of Western Disturbances. Meanwhile, the weather activity over the Northern Plains occurs due to the cyclonic circulation that the Western Disturbance induces. Thus, the states of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan as well as West Uttar Pradesh record some winter rains. Thereafter, the system starts to fade away as it moves eastwards.

However, there are very few occasions when these circulations in tandem with active Western Disturbances travel towards the East resulting in rains over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar as well as Jharkhand.

Whenever a Western Disturbance is present over the Western Himalayan region, two days after, extreme northeastern parts of the country, particularly Upper Assam and Arunachal observe some rains as the system moves eastwards.

Talking about South India, this is the least active period for the region as far as any weather activity is concerned. It is only when the ITCZ extends northwards and its embedded circulations cause some rainfall over the Southern Peninsula.

Now, for the next two days, which is around February 20 and 21, scattered rainfall and isolated snow may occur over the hills of North India including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh as well as Uttarakhand. Even Northeast India may witness some weather activity during this period, especially the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

In fact, on February 21, Delhi and its adjoining areas including the foothills of Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh may witness some isolated thunderstorm, but this activity will be less in both intensity and spread.

After February 21 as well, only the hills as well as Arunachal Pradesh are expected to witness some weather activity. Otherwise, comfortable and subtle weather conditions will prevail across most parts of the country during next 48 hours. Thus, no rainfall activity is expected over any other part of the country along with which temperatures will also be in the comfortable range over most areas.

Usually, the induced cyclonic circulation’s initiation takes different shapes. This time, around February 24, this system will originate from Gujarat and adjoining Rajasthan grow accordingly and then shift towards North India. Thus, around February 24, many parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan will witness rain activity followed by North India. Until then, residents can enjoy comfortable and dry weather.
