Cyclone Asani to give good rains over Kolkata, no damage expected

May 9, 2022 7:44 PM |

Cyclone Asani which formed in the Bay of Bengal and is still over West Bengal continuing its journey is the third storm in the month of May starting from 2020, creating a hat-trick of storms for the month of May.

For the last two years, there have been Cyclones during this period wherein in the year 2020, Bay of Bengal saw Amphan which had ravaged the state of West Bengal. Thereafter, in 2021, the region saw Yaas which crossed Odisha but impacted West Bengal as well with some heavy showers.

However, Cyclone Asani is unlikely to cause any impactful weather over West Bengal. The outer peripherals of such storms extend even beyond 500 km. Due to this, Kolkata is expected to see some rainfall activities in the next two days but we do not expect any anxious moments as such.

Main damage from a storm in any case comes from the combination from very heavy rains and strong winds. Since, these situations are unlikely, the storm will not cause any disturbing conditions and worry as such.
