Something unusual is happening across Northwest India, this season. December is almost here and winters are yet to make an appearance over the region.

The last rainy spell that the plains of Northwest India had witnessed was around November 13-14. Since then, dry and warm weather conditions are prevailing across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.

At present, both the day and night temperatures are settling 2℃-3℃ above the normal range over the most parts. Due to such temperatures, chilly winters are still not being felt over the plains.

Although successive Western Disturbances have been approaching Western Himalayas. However, they have failed to induce a Cyclonic Circulation over North Rajasthan and adjoining areas. Consequently, in the absence of these weather systems, rains and thundershowers have remained absent from northwestern plains of the country.

Further, we expect a marginal fall in minimums during the next 24 to 48 hours. With these unabated cold northwesterly winds, we can expect significant fall in temperatures is possible around December 5 and 6.

That will be the time when winter chill will be felt during morning and evening hours and light woolens would be required.

Moreover, shallow to moderate fog is also expected over the parts of Himachal Pradeh, Punjab,  Haryana and Northwest Uttar Pradesh in the coming two days.

At present, pollution level of Delhi- NCR is also at an alarming rate and we do not expect any major change in the days to come.
