Deep depression near Andhra Coast enhances rain in Kerala

May 18, 2016 4:00 PM |

Kerala RainPre-Monsoon showers continue to lash Kerala. During last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall has occurred over many places in the state. One or two places have recorded very heavy rainfall as well.

This ongoing spell of heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day could be attributed to the deep depression which has formed over southwest Bay of Bengal. This weather system has been bringing torrential rains in Tamil Nadu. Simultaneously, it has enhanced moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea over coastal areas of Kerala.

Now, this deep depression is moving northwards along the East Coast. Therefore, we expect that the rain intensity will reduce over Kerala but light to moderate rainfall will continue over many parts of the state for another 48 hours.

Thereafter, Kerala will witness a lull period for a day or so. Rain in Kerala will once again increase from May 23 as we expect another weather system to come up over the Arabian Sea. Good pre-Monsoon activity will continue over the state and the entire West Coast, giving way to the arrival of Monsoon 2016.
