The weather system gave three digit rainfall at many places over West Bengal. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Asansol witnessed extremely heavy rains to the tune of 161 mm, Burdwan 125.8 mm, Sriniketan 117.9 mm, Uluberia 72 mm, Kolkata 70.8 mm, Bankura 65.7 mm, Diamond Harbour 52.3 mm and Krishnagar 32 mm.

In the same span of time, Midnapore, Digha and Bahrampore witnessed light rains. Strong winds and lightning strike also affected West Bengal including Kolkata.

At present, the deep depression is moving in west-northwest direction towards Jharkhand. Hence, it is anticipated that the rain intensity is likely to reduce over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata. However, Bankura, Purulia, Burdman, and Birbhum are expected to receive moderate to heavy rain today as these cities are in proximity to the weather system.

The deep depression is likely to weaken into a depression and thereafter into a low-pressure area by today evening, which will result in decreased rain activity after 24 hours.

Thereafter, scattered light to moderate rain will continue over the central districts of the state such as Malda, Murshidabad, Dinajpur. Kolkata will not witness heavy downpour now but light showers will continue.
