Monsoon in India

Southwest Monsoon has officially come to an end which means from now, the rainfall count will not be calculated in Monsoon despite the fact that Monsoon has not withdrawn yet. Monsoon ended with a 10 percent surplus at 110 percent of the Long Period Average.

Usually, the withdrawal process of Southwest Monsoon begins before the official end of Monsoon. This time, the withdrawal commencement has been stretched even beyond the season and there are no signs of Monsoon retreating this week at least.

This time, Monsoon withdrawal has been an unprecedented delay, which has not been seen in the past few years. As per our experts, Monsoon will begin its withdrawal process in the second week of October itself.

In fact, the areas which see withdrawal in the beginning have been seeing heavy rains. While the Kutch region has been recording hefty rains, showers have been making appearances over Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana also.

Normally, by October 1, a withdrawal line is drawn up to Mumbai, Bhopal, and Varanasi as Monsoon only withdraws up to areas that lie 15 degrees North. This time, even these cities will see a delay in the process.

Usually, retreating Monsoon leaves sporadic showers before it vacates any pocket. This time also, before the withdrawal, which is expected to be seen between October 8 and 10, rains will be seen in Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab and adjoining areas.

East India in any case has already been seeing rains. While Mumbai, which might see the withdrawal between October 12 and 15, may also see some rainfall activity right before that.
