Delhi and Mumbai to battle poor air quality

December 10, 2022 1:32 PM |

The air quality index of Delhi and NCR is oscillating between poor to very poor since last many days. Whereas, the commercial capital Mumbai has been witnessing very poor air quality since last few days. However, AQI of Mumbai has improved to some extent and now is in poor category.

Northern Plains such as Delhi and NCR are notorious for its pollution during winters. On the other hand, Mumbai usually witnesses moderate air quality. Moderate breeze is usually continuous over Mumbai and suburbs during afternoon hours leading to disbursement of pollutants.

However, since last one week or so wind speed over Mumbai and adjoining areas had become light. Easterly and South easterly light winds continued over Mumbai leading to accumulation of pollutants.

Low temperature, light winds and formation of mist and Haze during morning hours were responsible for deterioration in air quality index for Delhi. Wind speed is expected to pick up pace over Mumbai which may improve the air quality to some extent.

Moreover, there are chances of light rain over many parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai between December 12 and 14. Rain may also help washing away the pollutants.

Winds may also pickup face over Delhi and NCR from December 12. Air quality index of Delhi may become poor but it will not come under moderate category for at least next one week.
