But as winds are blowing from the southeast direction which is coming from the Bay of Bengal and are humid in nature, therefore humidity levels have increased. The speed of wind is also light due to which haze and mist are developing during the morning hours.

Smoke and dust particles, as well as other pollutants, are mixing with mist and haze and due to the absence of strong winds, these pollutants continue to linger near the earth’s surface leading to increased pollution levels. At present in Punjab and Haryana stubble burning is going on.

The states are in the northwest direction of Delhi and the winds are blowing from the opposite direction, therefore, those pollutants are not being carried towards Delhi and NCR. Now it is anticipated that the pattern of the wind will change and will start blowing from the northwest direction during the next four to five days.

Hence the smoke particles emerging from stubble burning from Punjab and Haryana will be carried by these winds towards Delhi and may increase the pollution levels further even before Diwali. A low-pressure area is also expected to develop over Odisha Coast by October 18. Due to this weather system, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal will blow once again over the northern plains over Delhi.

The humidity level will increase from October 18 onwards leading to the formation of mist and haze. Moreover, the smoke of cracker burning on the eve of Diwali, emission of smoke from vehicles will also contribute to increasing pollution levels over Delhi and adjoining regions.
