Delhi rains have been playing the game of hide and seek for the last many days. Good Monsoon rains have remained absent from showing upon Delhi NCR and the city is just recording some patchy showers on some occasions. Due to this, Delhi is rain deficit by 21%.

The reason for the reduced rainfall activity over Delhi can be associated with the southward position of the axis of Monsoon trough. The western arm of the axis of Monsoon trough has been lying south of its normal position due to which, it failed to give good rains over the national capital and its adjoining Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Though some on and off rains continued over Delhi and NCR.

On the last day, the western arm of the axis of Monsoon trough shifted slightly north due to which some isolated rains occurred over the city and its surrounding areas. In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Delhi’s Palam observatory recorded 0.8 mm of rains, meanwhile, Safdarjung observatory did not record any rains.

However, as per Skymet Weather, the situation is conducive for some rains over Delhi and NCR in the next 24-48 hours. Skymet Weather predicts that the western arm of the axis of Monsoon trough is likely to shift further north towards Delhi and NCR.

In the wake of this, Delhi and NCR may experience some patchy showers in the next 24-48 hours. The intensity of the rains is likely to increase from July 21 and thereafter, we expect few good rains to continue until July 25.

Hence, Delhiites may expect some relief from the ongoing humid weather as the sky would continue to remain partly cloudy to cloudy. The temperatures may also drop by 3-4 degree Celsius leading to comfortable weather. The most credible period of rains would be during the early morning or late evening hours.
