Delhi rains to be a prolonged affair this time

Delhi rains have been making frequent appearances since the past few days, however, these rains have been only patchy in nature and mostly a localized affair. The city has not seen a prolonged spell of rain for a very long time now. The months of July and August are the rainiest with rains being at 187 mm and 232.5 mm, respectively.

As far as the monthly rains are concerned, Safdarjung has already seen 154 mm of rains and with 10 more days to go, the city will surely be able to surpass its monthly mean.

There have been episodes of heavy rains as well on a couple of days, but rains have not lasted for days and faded away soon after.

However, it seems like Delhi rains are back again, only this time to stay for a longer period of time. Rainfall activity begun last night and light rains were witnessed. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Safdarjung observatory saw 4 mm of rainfall while Palam recorded 1 mm of rains.

Parts of Delhi including the NCR region of Noida saw some sharp showers during the morning hours. Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Delhi rains will continue for at least two to three days with occasional breaks in between.

Moreover, Delhi will see short spells of rains during the day and even during some part of the night. Rainfall activity will be on the higher side on July 22. These rains will occur in association with a low pressure area which is over North Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh. The Western Disturbance is also seen over the Western Himalayan region.

Moreover, the axis of the Monsoon trough is also running in proximity of Delhi resulting in moisture incursion over the region.
