Delhi rains to continue today, to take a backseat by tomorrow

Delhi rains have made an appearance once again giving good showers over the city for the last two to three days or so. Moreover, few good spells of rainfall even resulted in pleasant weather conditions and reduced temperatures.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Palam observatory recorded a good 24.5 mm of rains while Safdarjung observatory witnessed 16.3 mm of rainfall. Other parts of Delhi also recorded good showers including Ayanagar at 23 mm, Delhi University 15 mm, and Ridge 14.3 mm.

The maximum temperatures have also settled in the comfortable range with Safdarjung recording maximums at 31.2 degrees and Palam at 30.4 degrees Celsius, both three to four degrees below the normal levels.

Generally, the month of September has been a good one for Delhi both in terms of temperatures as well as rainfall activities. In fact, it can be termed as one of the best Septembers for Delhi in the last few years.

Usually, rainfall reduces to quite an extent in September as it happens to be a withdrawal month. However, this time rains have been on the higher side with the city being able to record a whopping 225 mm of rains against its monthly average of 129.8 mm of rainfall, which is almost 100 mm more. Delhi has recorded the second highest monthly rains with the highest ever being 332 mm in September 2010.

Now, Cyclone Daye has weakened into a low-pressure area and is now lying over North Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana. Thus, the system is expected to stay for another 12 hours due to which rains will continue today.

However, rainfall will reduce significantly, and only isolated pockets will see light rains during the morning hours and clearance will be observed during the latter part of the day. Moreover, rains will take a backseat and temperatures will also start to increase thereafter.
