After a long wait, Southwest Monsoon made its onset over Delhi on July 2 and lashed the capital with good showers. Though the rains stopped and humid weather took over the city but again after a gap of four to five days, Delhi has once again started receiving rains on July 6.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Safdarjung Observatory recorded 17.6 mm rainfall, Aaya Nagar Observatory 15 mm, Ridge 9.4 mm and Palam Observatory 7.4 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is prevailing over Haryana and adjoining areas and a trough is extending from North Punjab to East India near to Delhi.

Although rains were highly localized and lasted for a short duration, the weather became pleasant after the showers. We expect another spell of rains today as well but from tomorrow onward, we expect dry weather conditions to return over Delhi on weekend.

From Monday, rain or thundershower activity is expected to commence once again over Delhi and NCR and is likely to continue for the next two to three days. During that particular time, temperatures will become pleasant and sky will remain cloudy to overcast.

This rainy spell will be due to the westward movement of the cyclonic circulation which will be forming over South Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh. And a fresh Western Disturbance is also expected to prevail during that time which will pour showers over the Delhi.
