Delhi rains to prevent Pollution levels rise, wintry days to appear

Updated at 05:30 PM, December 11, 2017: As predicted, Delhi rains have finally commenced on Monday evening. Rain bearing clouds have been hovering over the national capital since afternoon, with showers finally making an appearance during evening.

According to Skymet Weather, we can expect light to moderate rains to lash several parts of the city. In the wake of the cloud cover, maximum temperatures hovered around 24 degrees today.

Cloudy weather would prevail over Delhi NCR for the next 24 hours, with chances of on and off rains. These rains will be instrumental in bringing down the mercury, intensifying the winter chill.

This spell can also be touted as the first spell of good winter rains. All thanks to the active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana. While the former one has been giving rain and snow over the hilly states of North India, the latter one has been lashing northwestern plains with rains.

As the system moves away, weather is likely to clear up by tomorrow evening. This would pave way for icy cold northwesterly winds from snow-clad Himalayas, which would then result in significant drop in both maximum as well as minimum temperatures across North India.

Published on December 11, 2017: Delhi weather has been playing enough games with Delhiites already. While minimums have been witnessing a rise and decline trend, the maximum temperatures have been on a constant high which is why the days have remained on the warmer side for the national capital.

As far as pollution is concerned, even these levels have been playing see saw. In fact, there have been days when the pollution has been constantly improving while other days have seen smoggy days for long. One thing which has remained far away from the national capital is the winter rainfall which brings the chill in the air.

However, the wait for these rains will soon come to an end as Delhi is expected to witness a few rainy days in the coming week. A Western Disturbance is currently over the Western Himalayas which will result in rain and snow over the Northern Hills.

The system has induced a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan region. With this, light rainfall activity will begin over the national capital tonight. These rainy activities are expected to continue until December 14.

December 12 may see some improved conditions in terms of rains but the possibility of rains on that day as well cannot be ruled out. Rains will continue over the national capital and adjoining NCR region on December 13 and 14.

With this, maximum temperatures are expected to witness a significant drop. Not only this, pollution levels will also see a drop. Before the rains begin, Delhi may see some deterioration in the air quality, but conditions will improve as soon as the rainfall activity.

After the Western Disturbance moves away, the minimum temperatures will also witness a significant drop over the national capital. Thus, wintry days and nights will be observed over Delhi and the NCR region. Residents should be soon seen in those wintry attires which have been sitting in their closets for far too long now.
