Delhi winters have been testing the waters a little too much. So much so that the city has been seeing record low maximums and minimums each day. Moreover, the city has been witnessing Cold Wave conditions for the past few days. Minimum temperatures have settled below the five degree mark for the past one week at least.
Moreover, in the past two days or so, minimums have settled all the lower below 4 degrees Celsius. Today, Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded its lowest minimum of the season at a mere 3.6 degrees Celsius. In fact, the city saw the lowest maximum at 19.5 degrees Celsius yesterday.
The month of December during the fag end does see very low minimums and maximums. However, in the last ten years, there have been only four occasions when Delhi saw its minimum less than 4 degrees. This month, there have already been four times when Delhi has managed to record minimums below 4 degrees Celsius, the lowest being today.
Now, no weather system is seen approaching the plains of North India, due to which minimums could drop even further. Cold Wave conditions are here to stay and will persist for a long time giving the residents a real taste of winter as 2018 bids adieu.
These low temperatures will also see high pollution levels and AQI will remain from very poor to severe in the coming days.
There could be days when minimums could break records resulting in numbing cold weather conditions for Delhiites. In fact, nip in the air will be to the extent that residents could face a freezing New Year this time which could play a spoil sport in the outdoor celebrations a bit. The crispness in the air will maintain its grip and winter chill will keep on increasing as days pass by.
