Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first flight from Shimla on Thursday under governments new subsidy scheme UDAN. The operations for the flight services will be carried by Alliance Air which is the regional sect of Air India.

UDAN is an acronym for Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik.  And under this scheme, 50% of the seats on every flight will have a capping of Rs.2500 per seat. But the caveat is that this scheme will come into play where the distance is less than 500 km and/or the duration is one-hour or less.

The UDAN scheme offers subsidy to airlines on these routes, route monopoly for three years and a host of other concessions at landing airports.

UDAN flying scheme is a great initiative by the government of India which is expected to create thousands of new jobs in the B and C grade cities of the country. This will not only help the middle-class to fly at cheaper prices but it will make it easier for business class people to the tier-2 cities.
