Delhi Witness Single Digit Temperatures Again, Light Rain May Show Up In Some Parts

February 21, 2022 5:55 PM |

Winter chill has not yet packed bags from the national capital. The base observatory Safdarjung,  recorded minimum temperature of 10.1°C today, a drop of 1.3°C since yesterday. Meteorological office at Lodhi Road was still lower at 9.2°C, about 2°C below the normal. Narela, Mungeshpur and Jafarpur remained the coldest with 7.8°C, 7.8°C and 8.2°C respectively, nearly 3°C below the average.  Moderate breeze in the morning raised the chill factor with the ‘feel like’ temperature of about 6°C. Strong surface winds have been suppressing the day temperatures, confining them to 23-25°C, despite bright sunshine.

An active Western Disturbance is arriving tomorrow over the hilly states of North India.  Also, an induced cyclonic circulation will appear over North Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana. This will again turn and twist the weather conditions over and around Delhi for the next 72hrs.

Prevailing northwesterly winds in the lower layers will soon be replaced by easterly stream, relatively more humid and warm. The minimum temperatures are likely to rise again and possibly go to double digit across the region. Strong surface winds may still arrest the day temperature at about 25°C for the next 2 days. However, these are also expected to rise to high 20’s from mid week onward.

Partial cloud cover will appear tomorrow for the capital city. Sky may turn cloudy during evening hours with few thick clouds in some parts. Though the chances of having rain remain far and few, still possibility of some ‘hit and miss’ showers can not be ruled out.  Base station at Safdarjung has recorded 18.6mm of rainfall in February against the normal of 22.1mm.  It may fall short of reaching this figure in the remaining days of the month.
