Sunday morning was misty and hazy in Delhi and many were worried that the sun will be in hiding, though gladly that didn’t happen. However, Pockets of Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, west Bihar, northern parts of West Bengal and Northeast India were covered in a thick blanket of fog which remained dense beyond 9 am.
Some of the places which reported visibility below 50 meters were: Patiala, Hisar, Agra, Bareilly, Varanasi, Gawalior, Gaya, Malda, Siliguri, Agaratala and Ganganagar (Nil visibility). It is evident that very light winds, clear skies and low temperatures had caused dense to very dense fog in these places.
Our weathermen explain that the reason why Delhi and parts of Punjab were lucky enough to not report any major fog is because of dry and warm southwesterly winds prevailing in the region which made the air dry and light, not permitting fog to form and allowing a bright wintry sun to appear.
While the next 48 hours look bright for Delhi and Punjab and other adjoining plains of North India, foggy mornings and cold days are likely to continue in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Tomorrow too very dense fog could be witnessed in pockets in both the states that could affect rail services.
“A Western Disturbance in the hills could make the weather partly cloudy and even rainy at times in Delhi and North India, from tomorrow onwards. The cloud cover will help in keeping dense fog at bay. Though mist could form for a short duration in the morning”, says a meteorologist at Skymet Weather.
