During the last 24 hours, light rain was observed in one or two pockets of Northeast Bihar. Moderate to dense fog was also observed in many parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, wherein nil visibility was recorded in Gorakhpur, Maharaj Nagar, Ballia, Chapra and Pashchim Champaran. Meanwhile, moderate fog engulfed Southeast Uttar Pradesh.

A drop of three to five degrees Celcius in minimums was also noticed in Muzaffarnagar during the last 24 hours.

According to the meteorologists at Skymet, a fresh Western Disturbance could be seen approaching North India. This system would block the flow of cold northerly winds to reach the eastern states. Thus, a further fall in minimums may be restricted for the next 48 hours.

Mainly clear sky is likely to persist with cold morning and moderate to dense fog. The day is expected to be sunny with maximums settling below normal in parts of Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. In some parts, clouds may appear, however, chances of rain are less.

Once the system in the North starts moving away, say from January 13, the flow of cold northerlies would resume leading to a drop in the temperatures again.
