Fog continues to grip many parts of East and Northeast India, with people waking up to low visibility on Thursday as well.
For the formation of fog, low temperatures, high humidity, and light winds are the essential factors and as per Skymet Weather, all these factors are present across the Indo Gangetic plains and Northeast India. Many Parts of Central and East Uttar Pradesh along the foothills witnessed very dense fog.
Places such as Sultanpur, Bahraich, Gorakhpur and Lucknow were the most affected stations due to fog. In fact, many parts of Bihar, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and few districts in West Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura were also under the grip of dense to very dense fog.

A cyclonic circulation can be marked near Mizoram due to which humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are increasing the moisture over the region. This has led to intense fog. Another cyclonic circulation is persisting in the lower levels over east and adjoining central parts of Uttar Pradesh, pavng way for light easterly winds over northern parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Hence, fog is likely to persist across Central and East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and few districts of West Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura during the next 48 hours.

The visibility will be almost nil or less than 50 meters. With this, rail, air and road transport will be affected to a large extent. It is advisable to avoid moving out during early morning hours. The minimum temperatures are also on the lower side across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
