West Bengal and Odisha are all set to witness heavy Monsoon 2018 today. All thanks to the fresh surge of Monsoon 2018. According to Skymet Weather, the well-marked low-pressure area has now intensified into a depression. As the sea surface temperatures are warm and the wind shear is low, therefore it will further intensify into a deep depression and cross Odisha Coast by late night today or early morning tomorrow.

During the last 24 hours, many parts of Odisha and isolated pockets of Gangetic West Bengal have received heavy rainfall activity. In fact, few districts of Odisha and West Bengal recorded very heavy rains such as Digha 156 mm and Paradip 99 mm.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Contai recorded 86 mm of rain, followed by Bhubaneshwar 56 mm, Chandabali 54 mm, Balasore 39 mm and Cuttack 33 mm.

Now, we expect many districts of Odisha to receive moderate to heavy rains with few very heavy spells. Moreover, many districts of West Bengal will also get good rains. Intensity will be more over Gangetic West Bengal.

Places such as Diamond Harbour, Kolkata, Midnapore, Pradip, Puri, Cuttack and Bhubaneshwar will heavy rains.

In wake of the weather system in Bay of Bengal, we expect sea conditions to remain rough to very rough over West Bengal and Odisha Coast. Strong winds with speed of 30-40 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph are also expected over coastal regions of these states. Therefore, fishermen are advised not to venture along the sea for at least next 48 hours.
