Patna rain rain in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh

While most parts of the country have been witnessing a dry Diwali this year, the eastern belt has been recording moderate to heavy rains during the past 24 hours. In fact, isolated very heavy showers have also lashed the state of Odisha during the same time period.

Rains have been more over Jharkhand as compared to the state of Bihar. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Bhagalpur recorded a whopping 39 mm of rain, Jamshedpur witnessed 27.8 mm of rainfall, Bokaro 2.6 mm, Ranchi 3.2 mm, and Daltonganj 0.3 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the presence of a weather system in Bay of Bengal which intensified into a depression from a well-marked low-pressure area. The weather system is expected to move in a north-northwestward direction. In fact, this system is expected to cross the coast between Chandbali and Puri during the midnight hours.

In the meantime, heavy rainfall activity is expected over the state of Jharkhand. Cities including Ranchi, Bokaro, Jamshedpur, and Daltonganj will witness some intense showers. Thus, the residents will see a rainy Diwali and rain gods will play spoilsport at the festivities.

Also, good rains are expected over some parts of Bihar as well. However, these rains will be less in intensity and spread as compared to Jharkhand. Temperatures will remain on the lower side over both these states and these rains will continue for another 24 hours or so.
