Despite upcoming rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir, March to end on a deficient note

For the state of Jammu and Kashmir, March is counted as an extension of the winter month and also sees the most amount of rains as compared to January and February. The average monthly rains for the state in March stands at 151.9 mm. Meanwhile, Pre Monsoon activity reduces rains between April and June and rainfall activity only increases in July when Southwest Monsoon makes an onset.

This march so far, the state of Jammu and Kashmir has seen 78.7 mm of rains making it deficient by 43 percent. Moreover, as rains have been absent, maximum temperatures for the last two days were above normal by 4 to 6 degrees.

In fact, many parts of the state are seeing maximums above 20 degrees Celsius, giving a feeling of warmth. Day temperatures in the higher reaches, popular tourist spots are also settling on the higher side with Gulmarg seeing 12.6 degrees which 6 notches above the normal level. Pahalgam settling at 19.5 degrees which is 5 degrees above the normal levels.

Now, a Western Disturbance is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir with March 29 and 30 seeing good rains, higher reaches may also see some snow. At the time of the rains, maximum temperatures will reduce again.

On the other hand, after the rainy spell, minimum temperatures at tourist destinations will reduce and can go to sub zero while Srinagar may see minimums at around 5 degrees Celsius. However, these rains may not be able to make the deficient figures as positive.
