Odisha swelters as heat wave like conditions prevail

Heatwave like conditions prevailed over most parts of Odisha between March 2 and March 5. The maximum temperatures reached 40°C-mark at a couple of locations during this period, leading to very hot weather. The residents were seen battling the extremely uneasy weather.

However, during the last 48 hours, we have seen a significant drop in day temperatures. The maximums have dropped by 3°C to 4°C over most the districts of Odisha.

As per Skymet Weather, now the maximum temperatures, as well as the minimum temperatures, are settling near normal over places like Cuttack, Gopalpur, Koraput, and Paradip. However, places such as Angul, Balasore and Chandbali are still recording day maximums above normal by 2°C to 4°C.

As per weathermen, the reason for the drop in maximum temperatures can be attributed to the flow of northerly and northeasterly winds which are hailing from the hills of Nepal and Sikkim.

Good news is that we do not expect any immediate rise in temperatures over the state. Therefore, the temperatures will settle near normal for another two to three days.

However, the weather during the day will continue to remain very warm as the normal average temperatures of most of the districts are around mid-30s. A slight relief will be felt from the harsh heat during the night as the weather will be comfortable.
