Drought-hit Rajasthan and Gujarat may get some relief due to upcoming rains

Many districts of Gujarat and western Rajasthan are facing drought like situation. Between June 1 and August 28 Gujarat region is deficient by 47%, Saurashtra and Kutch by 41% and west Rajasthan by 24%. East Rajasthan is also deficient why 3%.

Successive break monsoon conditions have resulted in this high rain deficiency. Monsoon was in break condition during later part of June till first 10 days of July. Second break occurred between August 9 and 18. Third brake was much shorter and was between august 24 and 28.

Now a low-pressure area has developed over south coast of Odisha and adjoining north coast of Andhra Pradesh. Axis of monsoon trough which was in the foothills of Himalayas has also moved south. The low-pressure area away will travel across Central parts of the country up to southwest Madhya Pradesh. Rain activities are expected to revive once again over Central India including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, North Madhya Maharashtra, east and South Rajasthan as well as many districts of Gujarat.

Monsoon rain may commence over Gujarat and Rajasthan giving much needed relief masses and farmers. Upcoming range may not be very heavy, but they will certainly be beneficial for agricultural community. Water Reservoirs may also add some more water.
