Dust storm and thundershowers to bring relief from heat in Delhi

May 31, 2015 12:22 PM |

Heat in DelhiDelhiites have been reeling under extremely hot and uneasy weather for almost a week now, in absence of any significant weather system. No strong Western Disturbance or prominent cyclonic circulation brought any weather activity in terms of rain and thundershowers.

Hot northwesterly winds and clear skies led to a sharp rise in temperatures. Heat wave conditions were witnessed in Delhi and NCR. Around May 28, central and West Pakistan received good showers. Relatively cool and moist southwesterly winds coming from these areas relaxed temperatures in Delhi and other parts of Northwest India. Consequently, maximums have come down to lower-forties. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 42.6°C on Saturday, while Palam saw the mercury rise up to 44.2°C.

Weather forecast for Delhi

A fresh Western Disturbance can be seen over Jammu and Kashmir and the induced cyclonic circulation persists over Haryana and adjoining areas. These two weather systems will bring scattered dust storm followed by thundershowers over Delhi and NCR during next 3 to 4 days.

Temperatures will come down to 38-39°C and maintain levels till June 4. As have been reiterated by Skymet, this spell of rain and thundershowers will come as a welcome relief from the scorching heat witnessed in Delhi for almost a week.
