East India rain deficiency to mount to alarming levels in view of lack of rains, no flooding rains for Northeast India

July 21, 2023 1:46 PM |

Monsoon rains have been far and few over the eastern parts of the country. In fact, due to the lack of Monsoon showers, the deficit in the eastern region has increased with Jharkahnd being 44 percent rain deficient, Bihar at 40 percent, and Gangetic West Bengal at 37 percent.

Earlier, Vidarbha and Martahwada saw such conditions with rainfall being deficient but covered up with rains lashing the region. The worst part for the eastern region is that there is no likelihood of rains over the eastern parts.

Moreover, Northeast India is also expected to see no flooding rains in the coming days as well.

Reason for such rains is attributed to the systems in Bay remaining south, which has meant that the trough remains far to the south. Easterly winds will continue to flow over the region, due to which the rain deficiency in East India will mount further to alarming levels.
