Flood fury to continue with more rains in Deesa, Ahmedabad, Rajkot in Gujarat

gujarat

North Gujarat has received heavy to extremely heavy rains in the past few days, leading to massive floods. The intensity of rains was so much that many districts of Gujarat got flooded. Till date, almost 80 people have lost their lives. Over, 30000 people have been evacuated so far. Many teams of NDRF and Air Force are carrying out rescue and relief operations.

These heavy rains can be attributed to a Low-Pressure area which was persisting over Gujarat and adjoining areas since many days. It was shifting over South Rajasthan at times and over Saurashtra and Kutch. This weather system continued to give heavy to very rains over many districts of Gujarat.

As the system was shifting over South Rajasthan, it also received extremely heavy rains which led to the flow of water towards Gujarat. The northern districts of Gujarat such as Banaskanta, Patan, Idar faced extremely severe floods.

At present, this Low-Pressure area has shifted over South Rajasthan and we expect that in the next 24 hours it is likely to become insignificant. Thus the intensity of rains will also reduce significantly and from tomorrow onwards, we expect improvements in flood situations. However, light to moderate rains with few heavy spells will continue until tomorrow.

As the weather will start clearing up, the rescue operations will go on smoothly. It is anticipated that no significant weather activities will prevail over the state for the next one week. In the past 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday Ahmedabad recorded 36 mm of rain, Idar 34 mm and Dessa 15 mm.

Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi had gone for an aerial survey and after which he has announced Rs 500 crore relief fund for the families of the victims, 2 lakh each will be given to the people who have lost their lives and the injured will be given 50 lakhs.
