Northeast India is the most rain deficient pocket this Monsoon season. As on August 5, Arunachal Pradesh is battling high rain deficiency to the tune of 35%, followed by Assam & Meghalaya by 29%.

Meanwhile, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura have managed to hold on to normal rainfall status but with deficiency of 18%.

Although on and off rains are being witnessed over the northeastern states, but they are not instrumental in improving the situation. However, these rains are now likely to subside on account of a depression over North Bay of Bengal, which would take away all the moisture.

According to Skymet Weather, rains are anticipated to remain subdued over Northeast India for at least the next 48 hours.

Thereafter, depression is likely to move gradually in northwest direction and then weaken. As a result, rains will increase over the northeastern states by September 8 or 9. During this time, we can expect moderate to heavy with few very heavy falls over almost all the seven states.

Weathermen foresee this rainy episode would be a prolonged one and would last until September 12. With the good news comes the bad scoop too, as the heavy falls may lead to water logging and flood-like conditions in many parts of flood ravaged Assam as well as Nagaland.

The weather conditions will recuperate by September 13, but absolute dry weather is not anticipated and on and off rains would continue thereafter.
