Flooding rains to continue over Northeast India

June 16, 2022 5:25 PM |

Northeast India has been receiving heavy to very heavy rains. So much so that, in the last three days, six people have lost their lives due to landslides.

The lower areas of Assam and Meghalaya will continue to be vulnerable. Meghalaya will not see flooding conditions due to its mountainous terrain but has the fear of landslides. Lower Assam on the other hand will continue to remain under the threat of more floods.

Heavy to very heavy rains will continue over Assam and Meghalaya and other adjoining areas, and they remain crucial for the next three days or so. The cities of Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Barpeta, Dhubri, Dispur, and adjoining areas will remain vulnerable.

Even though there may be some respite from the ongoing situation after three days, rains will continue and by virtue of the heavy rains, water bodies will keep responding even after rains subside. Thus, no respite from flood situation in the near future.
