Fog to reappear over Delhi-NCR, light showers in Punjab and Haryana

Fog in Delhi

Ever since the month of December began, fairly widespread dense fog engulfed the entire Indo-Gangetic Plains. Delhi and adjoining regions also witnessed dense to very dense fog from November 30 until December 2.

But, thereafter, intensity of fog reduced over the national capital and neighboring regions. However, parts of Punjab are still witnessing intense fog. As of now, many parts of Uttar Pradesh along with some parts of north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and northeast regions are still affected by moderate to dense fog.

Similar weather conditions are expected to continue for another two days thereafter, the easterly winds are likely to once again start blowing across the Indo-Gangetic Plains. As per Skymet Weather, another strong weather system is developing over the Bay of Bengal which will gradually move towards North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast.

Due to these weather systems, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to reach up to Delhi by December 8. At that time, intensity of fog is expected to once again increase over the national capital along with the adjoining states. Moreover, visibility is also likely to drop significantly leading to road, rail and air disruptions.

Additionally, winds will be light in nature during that time leading to increase in pollution level. This would further lead to a development of moderate to intense fog which is expected to continue for next few days.

An active Western disturbance is also expected to develop on December 10 and December 11 which is likely to give scattered rains over Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Moreover, an increase in the humidity levels is expected which is helpful in the sustainability of dense fog.
