Foggy morning likely over Chennai, dry weather to persist

January 28, 2018 7:10 PM |

Foggy morning likely over Chennai, dry weather to persistChennai has been witnessing dry weather conditions for a long time now. In fact, the city has been mostly dry for the entire month of January with only two days of light rainfall.

The reason for no rain show over the capital city of Tamil Nadu can be attributed to the absence of any weather system prevailing close to the region. In fact, even if weather systems did develop in Bay, they were far away from the North Tamil Nadu coast.

As far as the temperatures are concerned, they continue to settle in the comfortable range during the night with slightly warm conditions during the day.

Now, a cyclonic circulation can be seen over Southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean which is weakening gradually. As this system is weakening, night temperatures are likely to reduce further over Chennai.

Simultaneously, northeasterly winds are prevailing over North Tamil Nadu coast which are cool in nature. Hence, being a coastal city, shallow fog and mist is expected over Chennai which will reduce the visibility for aviation purposes during the morning hours.

Meanwhile, the weather will remain dry over the city with partly cloudy sky conditions. The maximum temperature will settle around 30-31 degrees while minimums will remain between 20 and 21 degrees Celsius.
