Fresh Low to give rains over West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand

August 23, 2018 4:56 PM |

Low pressure area in Bay of Bengal

Monsoon rains are driven by various Monsoon systems, these may be Western Disturbances, circulations, lows, Monsoon troughs and Depression. Though Monsoon troughs play a vital role in enhancing the rains, it is the rest of all which mainly affect the rainfall activities over any area.

Any combined effect of all the three when moving in tandem, they result in rains. In fact, the combined effect of two out of these, that is a weather system along with the Monsoon trough is quite frequent and most of the time, affect the area.

The last Monsoon system which has resulted in heavy to extremely heavy rains over Central India has now weakened. This system has merged with the trough and is lying over Madhya Pradesh. Now, a fresh system is seen as a cyclonic circulation at higher levels.

The system is likely to get organized and become more marked. However, the proximity of the coastline may not support the system to become a well-marked low-pressure area. This may move inland as a cyclonic circulation or feeble low itself by August 25.

Prior to this upcoming system, almost all the other previous lows travel in a westerly direction towards Central India, giving flooding rains over most parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Gujarat. However, the upcoming system would take a slight northward track and would move along the Indo-Gangetic Plains. Thus, this system would result in giving good rains over most parts of East India, in states like West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Furthermore, these rains would help in curtailing the rainfall deficiency of Jharkhand and Bihar as well. Hence, for the next three days, that spanning from August 24 to August 26, some good rains are expected over these states, slowing down thereafter.
