Fresh system in Bay to revive rains in Chennai, Tamil Nadu

December 22, 2016 1:16 PM |

Rain in Tamil NaduIn absence of any weather system, Tamil Nadu has been witnessing dry weather conditions for the last couple days. Moreover, we expect similar conditions to prevail over the state for the next 48 hours as well.

However, a fresh spell of rains is seen approaching the coastal state very soon. A fresh trough has developed in extreme southeast Bay of Bengal, which at present is affecting the weather over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

According to Skymet Weather, the system is likely to develop into a cyclonic circulation in next 24 to 48 hours and later concentrate into a low pressure area.

The system will be moving in west direction towards South Tamil Nadu. As it nears the Indian coast, south coastal parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to record light to moderate rains on December 26 and 27.

Chennai could also some showers during this time but intensity of rains will be much lesser than the southern parts of the state.

Tamil Nadu including Chennai is battling high rain deficiency this season. Northeast Monsoon has been subdued ever since its onset, which too was a delayed one.

Despite three cyclones (Kyant, Nada and Vardah) and back to back weather systems in Bay of Bengal, the state has not been able to cover up its deficiency. We believe that season is going to end on a deficit note only.
