From Jammu and Kashmir to Tamil Nadu, rain sweeps entire India

Rain in IndiaWestern Disturbance, induced cyclonic circulations and confluence of winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal brought a rainy spell across the country. From Jammu and Kashmir to Tamil Nadu, rain and snowfall lashed most parts of India. These multiple weather systems worked in tandem to bring record breaking rainfall over the past 24 hours.

Rain in North and East India

In this part of the country, all the three hilly states received rain and snowfall, while the plains were lashed by record-breaking rainfall.

In last 24 hours, Srinagar recorded 35 mm of precipitation, Amritsar 77 mm of rain, Chandigarh 64.4 mm, Dehradun 72 mm and Ambala 2 mm of rain.

Rain in Delhi- Even the national capital received good amounts of rainfall with the Safdarjung Observatory recording 56.8 mm of rain and Palam 56.1 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Sunday. In Rajasthan, Jaipur received 25 mm of rain, Kota 33 mm and Bikaner 10 mm.

 Water logging and massive traffic jam prompted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to warn students appearing for their board exams to leave their home early.

  In the eastern part of the country, Lucknow recorded 27 mm, Allahabad 6 mm and Patna just 1 mm of rain. As have been reiterated by Skymet, rain will now follow a receding trend over the three hilly states, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. The rain belt will also cover Odisha and West Bengal during next 24 hours.

Rain in Northeast India

The rain belt will travel up to Northeast India by the 3rd of March. This region will receive rain for a period of 48 hours.

Rain in Central India  

Multiple weather systems have coupled up to soak most parts of Central India including entire Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

In Madhya Pradesh, Satna received 25.6 mm, Khajuraho 25.7 mm, Bhopal 10 mm and Jabalpur 25 mm of rain in last 24 hours. Raipur recorded 12 mm of rain, Nagpur 27 mm, Pune 11 mm, Mumbai 5 mm and Ratnagiri 36 mm of rain. Bhavnagar in Gujarat received 36.2 mm of rain, while the capital city Ahmedabad recorded just 1.6 mm.

Rain in South India

In this season, weather activity travels down to the southern latitudes in few rare occasions. Such a circumstance has been witnessed during this spell of rain. A streak of weather extended from Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha to interiors of Peninsular India.

Consequently, Kozhikode and Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh received 24 mm and 18 mm of rain, respectively. In Karnataka, Belgaum 10 mm, Honnavar 41.7 mm and Bangalore received just 0.1 mm of rain.

Temperatures in India

In view of rain, day temperatures across the country will come down to normal levels. Rain and strong winds, particularly in North India and Delhi, reduced the diurnal variation significantly. Maximum and minimum temperatures recorded today morning in Delhi were 19°C and 14.8°C, respectively. The variation was even less in Ambala with maximum at 17.8°C and minimum recording 14.6°C.
