These weather conditions can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over East Assam and adjoining Meghalaya, which has already been resulting in good showers over almost entire Northeast India.

During the Pre-Monsoon season, hailstorm occurrence is a common phenomenon. The freezing level is at the height of 3.5-4 km. When the top of the convective clouds reach 7-8 km, these clouds cause hailstorms.

Several other areas in Northeast India also received good rains during this period. For instance, in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Dibrugarh recorded 22 mm of rain, followed by North Lakhimpur where 9 mm rain was received.

Northeast India will continue to receive rain for the next few days. In fact, the intensity of rains are likely to increase during the next 24 hours and will continue for quite some time.
