Dharamsala rainRainfall activity in North India has been subdued for the last few days. However some places in the hills and the foothills have observed occasional heavy rain. For instance, Dharamsala in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday has recorded a whopping 236 mm of rain. Nahan, which is also in Himachal Pradesh has observed 106 mm of rain during the same period.

This is the second time in a week that Dharamsala has observed three digit rainfall. The hill town had observed 110 mm of rain on August 8.

The Monsoon trough which had shifted closer to the foothills gave this bout of rain in the hills off North India. The oscillation of the Monsoon trough (North to South and vice versa) is also a major factor behind good rains in the region.
Some heavy rain is also observed along the path of the trough, which is why Sehore in Madhya Pradesh received 101 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.

A couple of stations in Telangana also received three digit rainfall during the same period. According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Rudrur recorded 104 mm of rain, while Manthan observed 110 mm of rain. The low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is giving rain over coastal Andhra Pradesh extending up to Telangana.

The off-shore trough has also given 107 mm of rain over Agumbe in Karnataka as well.
