Good Monsoon rains lash Harnai, Vengurla, Goa, Alappuzha

Monsoon rains to pick up pace along Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala

Since the arrival of the Southwest monsoon, the West Coast of the country has been witnessing good monsoon rains. Three digit rain at one point had become a common affair for this region. The Konkan and Goa region, in particular, was witnessing very heavy rains. Not only this, Coastal Karnataka region is also not far behind with good showers occurring in parts.

The state of Kerala has had its own pattern or receiving monsoon rains wherein the state recorded occasional light to moderate rains with few isolated heavy showers have been agreeing over the regions.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Harnai recorded a good 75 mm of rain, followed by Vengurla where 47 mm of rain was witnessed. Other areas to have received good range include Goa 27 mm, Karwar 23.6 mm, Honavar 25.8 mm, Alappuzha 23 mm, Kochi 19 mm and Mangalore 13.4 mm.

The reason for these monsoon rains over the West coast can be attributed to the feeble off shore trough which has been running from Konkan and Goa up to Kerala region.

According to skymet weather, light to moderate rains with isolated heavy showers will continue over the entire West Coast.

However, the intensity of rain is expected to remain on the higher side over the Konkan and Goa as well as coastal Karnataka region. Meanwhile, Kerala will receive slightly lesser rains as compared to the other two regions during the next 24 hours.
