Ever after the commencement of Northeast Monsoon in the Southern Peninsular India, moderate to heavy rains have been bashing the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu. However, since Kerala fall in the rain shadow area during Northeast Monsoon, the state is not impacted much by rains.

However, a slight effect of the Northeast Monsoon over Kerala is still seen as the so-called ‘God’s Own Country’ has been witnessing light to moderate rain from the last many days.

The last 24 hours also brought a bunch of good rains for the state as many coastal stations of Kerala recorded light to moderate showers. Within the span of the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Wednesday, Punalur recorded moderate rains of 31 mm, Thrissur 26 mm, Kochi 8 mm and Kottayam 8 mm each, Thiruvananthapuram 4.2 mm and Palakkad witnessed light spells of 3 mm.

The southern districts of Kerala such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kottayam are likely to continue getting light to moderate rains isolated heavy spells. While the districts lying in the northern coastal regions are expected to receive scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells.

These showers are anticipated to continue for another 2 days. Thereafter, the intensity is likely to reduce though on and off light spells are still expected to continue.
