Rain in Peninsular IndiaSouthwest Monsoon in Peninsular India ended with a deficit of 15%. While six meteorology divisions recorded normal rain figures, four were found to be in deficit.

October has started on a good note for the region and rains have picked up in almost entire Peninsular India. Barring Telangana, all other meteorology divisions in Peninsular India have recorded at par or above normal rains. As on October 5, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, north interior Karnataka, and Kerala have recorded excess rainfall.

Good rains have been recorded at various places in this part of the country in the last 24 hours. In Karnataka, Chitradurga recorded 23 mm, Mandya 18 mm, Gadag 9 mm, and Mysore received 21 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. In Tamil Nadu, Nagapattinam received 42 mm of rain, Tiruchirappalli 29 mm, Coonoor and Salem 11 mm each, and Chennai recorded 9 mm of rain. Also, in Kerala, Kannur received 67 mm rainfall, Kochi 40 mm, Kozhikode 25 mm, and Punalur 38 mm.

As per Skymet Meteorology Division in India, good rainfall is likely to continue over Kerala, coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, most parts of Tamil Nadu, and some parts of Rayalaseema for the next three to four days. In addition to this, scattered light to moderate rainfall may also occur over coastal Andhra Pradesh.

A low-pressure area is expected to develop over east-central and southeastern Arabian Sea. This system will trigger increased rainfall activity over Karnataka and Kerala. The east-west trough running along Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka will also enhance rainfall activity in the region.

It is safe to say that the first 15 days of October will be relatively better for most parts of Peninsular India. However, only subdued rainfall activity will be witnessed over north interior Karnataka and Telangana during this period.
