Good rains to continue over South India for a few more days

South India RainThe southern parts of the country were not only dry for the past few days, but rain gods had also turned their backs against the states of Tamil Nadu as well as Kerala. So much so that temperatures were witnessing above normal temperatures.

However, rainy days are back again for both Tamil Nadu as well as Kerala; and they are surely here to stay. In fact, some areas in the region during the last 24 hours have also witnessed heavy rainfall. In fact, the islands of Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar have also received rains.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kodaikanal received a whopping 42 mm of rain, Minicoy 31 mm, Atiramapattinam 16 mm, Karaikal 13 mm, Cuddalore 6 mm, and Madurai 3 mm. Traces of rain were alos witnessed in Coonoor, Kochi as well as Thiruvananthapuram.

These rains are attributed to the presence of Another trough which is extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal up to North Bay of Bengal. Also, a trough of low is currently off the Sri Lanka coast up to South Tamil Nadu.

These rainy spells are expected to continue over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well as Lakshadweep. In fact, both the states of Karnataka as well as Coastal Andhra Pradesh will also witness some rains in the coming days.
