West Coast Rain

The West Coast of the country has been receiving good Monsoon showers throughout the Southwest Monsoon season. While there were some breaks in between when the entire region including Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala only witnessed light to moderate showers, during the other days, Southwest Monsoon was in full swing over the region.

The last 24 hours were also good enough for the entire West Coast. However, there have been some reduction in rainfall activity over the Kerala region. In fact, only light showers with isolated moderate spells have been observed over God’s own country.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Mahabaleshwar witnessed a massive 122 mm of rain while Dahanu recorded a whopping 91 mm of rainfall. Other areas to have received good rains included Matheran 81 mm, Alibag 79 mm, Bhira 74 mm, Mumbai 64 mm, Honavar 43.2 mm, Karwar 27 mm, Kannur 16 mm and Kozhikode 9 mm.

These rains have been attributed to the presence of the off shore trough along the West Coast running from Gujarat up to Kerala coast. However, the effect of the weather system is likely to be lesser on the Kerala side during the next 24 hours as well.

Thus, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Monsoon showers are expected to be between moderate to heavy over Coastal Karnataka and Konkan while they will be of lesser intensity over Kerala.
