State of Gujarat remains a fair weather pocket during winter months. The region is far from reach of the western disturbance and also sufficiently away from northeast monsoon systems moving across Peninsular India. Except for some ‘sea fog’ in the coastal stations like Naliya, Jamnagar, Dwarka, Porbandar and Okha, visibility conditions also remain good. Weather conditions do turn cold and chilly at some stations, for short duration, over North &Central Gujarat and interiors of Saurashtra & Kutch. Single digit minimum temperature at such places are recorded, mostly during December and January.
Presently, most parts of the state are observing slightly warm days and pleasant nights. Day temperature is in the range of 28-30°C and during night dropping between 17-19°C. Not much change is anticipated in the next 48hr or so.
Weather conditions are mostly influenced by the weather systems moving across plains and hills of north India. There is no active weather system expected in the next one week over these parts. However, the wind pattern is expected to change over state of Gujarat after about 72hr. There is a feeble circulation in the lower levels over Saurashtra and Central Gujarat. Therefore, the winds are likely to be light and easterly for the next 3days. This feature will get filled up shortly. Thereafter, winds will mainly turn northerly and northeasterly as a part of anticyclone over Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.
Accordingly, the night temperatures are expected to drop by 3-4°C, except for the coastal stations. Minimum temperature may dip to about 13-14°C over Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Baroda, Deesa, Idar, Patan, Mehsana, Palanpur, Rajkot and Surendranagar. These temperatures may dip further over parts of Kutch. Bhuj may go down to 11-12°C and Naliya may plummet to single digit minimum for few days in the next week.
