Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Allahabad to brace for more good rains

It has been raining heavily in parts of Uttar Pradesh from last many days. Mainly the districts of East Uttar Pradesh have witnessed heavy to extremely heavy rains. Districts like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bahraich, Lucknow, and Bareilly have seen moderate to heavy spells including a few very hefty showers in the last couple of days as well. And somewhat the similar intensity of rains are anticipated to continue over the region.

In fact, the last 24 hours were rainier for a few regions of East Uttar Pradesh wherein rains varying from moderate to extremely heavy were recorded. In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Gorakhpur recorded extremely heavy showers of 158.7 mm, thereby making the region one of the rainiest of the day.

In fact, taking this hefty sum of rains into consideration, this is the highest rainfall recorded for Gorakhpur in the last 7 years, and second highest in a decade which is followed by the highest ever recorded in the year 2010.

The other districts of Uttar Pradesh that recorded good rains during the similar time frame include Allahabad 84.2 mm, Bahraich 47.6 mm, Varanasi 27 mm, and Lucknow witnessed 17 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for this hefty rainfall can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation that is over Bihar. Moreover, a trough is extending from Punjab to Gangetic West Bengal across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Moreover, heavy to extremely heavy rains are likely to occur over the foothills and East Uttar Pradesh like over Gorakhpur, Balia, Bahraich for the next 24-48 hours. While, the districts in the western region of the state like Bareilly, Lucknow, Varanasi can also brace for some moderate to heavy showers.

Skymet reiterates light to moderate intermittent rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Allahabad, Amethi, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Ballia, Balrampur, Basti, Faizabad, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mau, Rae Bareli, Shravasti, Siddharth Nagar, Sitapur, Sultanpur and Varanasi districts of Uttar Pradesh during next 18 to 24 hours.
