Although Delhi looks no less happening during summers, but winters glorify its beauty making everything just look perfect and in place.

Winters in Delhi usually signify flowers blooming to their best, enjoying Kullad chai sitting on the edge of India Gate and youngsters slaying their winter outfits.

In fact, since the last few days, Delhi has been witnessing normal temperatures and people here were waiting eagerly to get the touch of winter chill so that they could wear the best out of their winter fashions.

Now it seems, the mother nature has finally given ears to the prayers of Delhiites. This morning, Gurugram has recorded not only the lowest minimum at 1.5℃, but it is also the lowest record of this season over entire Delhi NCR region.

Moreover, with the mercury dropping down significantly over Gurugram region, severe cold wave conditions have started tightening its grip over the city. This sudden drop in temperatures can be attributed to the commencement of icy cold winds coming all the way from Western Himalayas.

In fact, Jammu & Kashmir as well as parts of Himachal Pradesh experienced good snowfall during last week. As a result, very cold winds blowing from that area had travelled towards the northern plains of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi thereby making the weather chilling cold.

Another reason for this major drop in temperature can be attributed to clear skies during night hours. When there is a clear night, earth’s energy that emits in the form of long wave radiation escapes into the atmosphere leading to rapid cooling of earth’s surface. As a result, cold waves appear over the region.

Further, in the presence of northwesterly winds, cold wave conditions will continue over the city till December 30. Thereafter, temperature will start showing a marginal increase. Moreover, a fresh Western Disturbance will approach Western Himalayas around December 29 and 30 which will hurdle the flow of northwesterly winds. As a result, temperatures will rise by 2℃-3℃ leading to abatement of cold wave conditions for some period.

Further, we wish just as the mother nature has heard the prayers for bringing in good winters, it listens to the prayers of flushing out pollution too!
