Heat wave shifts from Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Vidarbha

May 20, 2015 1:21 PM |

Heat waveHeat wave conditions were prevailing over parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat for quite some time, before dust storm and thundershowers brought down temperatures over the area on May 19.

The cyclonic circulation present over north Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana region, led to change in wind pattern.

Hot and dry northwesterly winds were replaced by cool southwesterlies. As a result, there has been a drop in maximum temperature across Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Pre-Monsoon rain in Rajasthan

The weather system also brought dust storm followed by thundershowers in northern parts of Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana region. Thereafter, these places saw a drastic drop in the day temperatures. Bikaner received 14.4 mm of rainfall, accompanied by hailstorm. Churu also recorded 10.4 mm of rain and Pilani 11.7 mm.

Temperatures were shooting up in the eastern parts of Rajasthan during the afternoon hours of Tuesday, while west Rajasthan witnessed a marginal drop. This spell of thundershowers brought quick relief from the sweltering heat as temperatures plummeted by 10 to 15 degrees.

In wake of the system, temperatures came down to mid-twenties in most parts of north Rajasthan, during the evening hours. Heat wave has abated and the heat pocket will now shift from Rajasthan to Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh. Temperatures are likely to increase in Telangana and Madhya Maharashtra as well.

As the cyclonic circulation moves away from Rajasthan, north westerly winds will set in once again and lead to rise in maximum temperature in a couple of days. Over the coming weekend, north Rajasthan, Gujarat and west Haryana will witness heat wave conditions. Temporary relief is likely around May 23-24, in view of a fresh Western Disturbance.
